About the Author

Ibn Taymiyyah was one of the important medieval Muslim scholars. Throughout his turbulent life, he sought to return Islam to its fundamentals, fearing that the religion had been adulterated by the proliferation of sects and schools. Dr. Asadullah Yate received his doctorate from the University of Cambridge in 1987. An accomplished translator of classical and modern works from Arabic, Persian, Turkish, German, and French, he teaches at the Weimar Institute in Germany and is a founding fellow of the Muslim Faculty of Advanced Studies.
